Symposium 2009
The secret life of trees: Heysen, Art and Ecology
Saturday 23 May, 10am–5.30pm
Beleura House Garden, Mornington

A day of informative and lively debate about the past, present and future of the Australian landscape. Discuss the latest views about the environment and its interpretation and conservation with well-known expert speakers including Professor Tim Bonyhady, art historian and Director of Centre for Climate Law and Policy, Australian National University; Professor Lesley Head, Head of School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Wollongong; Richard Barley, Director of Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne; Dr David Hansen, senior researcher and paintings specialist at Sothebys; Philip Hunter, landscape artist and Geoffrey Edwards, Director of Geelong Gallery.

This symposium is presented in conjunction with the Hans Heysen survey exhibition and explores how the iconic depictions of river red gums and the ancient mountain forms of the Flinders Ranges by Heysen inform our understanding of the environment. The day will begin with a tour of the Hans Heysen exhibition after which a bus will take guests to Beleura House Garden, an historic Italianate villa and garden in Mornington. The event includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea and a glass of wine.

The Great Debate 2009
“That Gardening is a Dangerous Addiction”

Hosted by the Queensland President of the Australian Institute of Horticulture and Sub Tropical Garden Class Presenter, Linda Brennan, the debate panel will include ABC’s Gardening Australia presenter and 4BC Radio personality, Colin Campbell, along with other prominent well known gardening personalities – a night that is sure to entertain.

Tickets cost $70 for AIH Members and $75 for non-members.
